Question Content

You can create a question when you want encourage the community to provide an answer to something specific. Commons users who can view your question (according to the choices you and your group organizers make), will be able to read, respond and link to them. Others who read answers can rate them up or down where the best answers can rise to the top.

Details

A Question is comprised of a core set of fields. Fields whose label is followed by an asterisk (*) are required for the entry.

Fill in the Title and Question Details, and select at least one Group. The additional question details may be composed using the text editor. If your group uses a vocabulary to organize its content, then select an appropriate tag to label the new post.

Groups
  • You can cross-post your content to multiple groups by selecting more than one entry from the groups list. Keep in mind that the audience of your post will be the broadest combination of viewers from all of the selected groups.
Visibility
  • You can explicitly override the group organizer's default and designate whether you want your content to be viewable only by group members or by all Commons users (community). It is generally recommended that you use the group default value set by your group's organizer, or at least notify them to avoid uncomfortable surprises.

Be sure to remember to click the SAVE (or UPDATE) button, as your edits will not be saved if you navigate away from the form without doing so.

Answering a Question

If you want to answer a new question or have an answer that is substantially different from all the other answers that were previously submitted, you can click on the light bulb button, either at the end of an existing question or after all of the existing answers and you will be given a form to submit a new answer. Your new answer will be given an initial rating of zero and will be displayed in its proper rating order as compared to all the other submitted answers.

If you would like to get a clarification on the question or want to provide additional details or qualifications to an existing answer, use the comment feature (double quote button) to link your details to the original posted content.
