Working Together to Avoid Surprises

Maintaining the appropriate audience for a group's content is a shared responsibility between the group organizer, the content author and the group's membership. The audience definition applied to group content (unpublished, group, community or public) should be visible as an indicator in the upper right of both the teaser view and the full content view of an item.

Auditing Audience

A group organizer can review the current audience status for all content in their group by selecting the 'Visibility' link on the 'Administer Group' page. The list on that page will display the content title, type, computed audience and number of people flagging the item, for each content item in the group.

Flagging Visibility

If a person viewing content feels that the audience is incorrect (either too broad or too narrow), then that person can flag the content for visibility by clicking the visibility flag action button   .  When a content item is flagged, an email is sent to notify the author and the group organizer that there are questions about the item. It is then incumbent on all the parties involved to resolve the questions about audience and correct any issues. A flagged item will be marked with an additional red warning indicator until the issue is resolved and the flag is retracted.

Flagged items (visibility and feedback requests) are displayed on the 'Flagged' tab of the browsing widget on the group home page. Visibility objections can be seen and cleared from the Visibility report, which is available via the 'Administer group' tab.
